Creature Comforts

Sometimes it’s nice just to stay at home and relax watching a favorite movie (just finished watching To Sir With Love) starring Sidney Poitier.  There’s something to be said about lounging in one’s jammies, drinking hot chocolate((and marshmallows) no worries, wrapped up in your favorite blanket on the couch when it’s cold outside and knowing tomorrow you have a free day off (federal holiday-Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.)

I think having down time like this really is good for the soul.  You can recharge the batteries, be lazy for a little while and forget about the world, if only for a few hours.

Feeling my way around…

….Saint Louis

I happened upon Meet Up which is a social networking site (free to sign up btw) because I am tentatively reaching out to the community to find like-minded people with the same like-minded interests….Sadly I haven’t found anything yet for military members (or those interested in the military) but hopefully someone would be so kind to direct me to a local group where I can join.

There are many choices from canoeing to volleyball to singles groups. Whatever tickles your fancy I highly recommend checking them out.

Legends of rock-in-roll

I had the opportunity to attend a concert featuring Foreigner and Styx at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater here in Saint Louis.  I have never been much of a person to attend concerts (all those sweaty people and cars tend to bring on the claustrophobia) however the anxiety was well worth it for what I saw. Watching these legendary bands of my childhood made me realize how really plastic some of today’s bands can be, especially when you hear them in person (think all of techno fantasy cover up to make some bands/singers sound good).

So hats off to these two bands. You really are legends of rock and roll!

The Pacific

I rarely watch HBO series (except for TrueBlood and Sex and the City) but this series sounds promising and not simply because I am a military junkie:

The Pacific

From the same creators of Band of Brothers this is a tale of 3 Marines during WWII and the battle with the Japanese in the Pacific.

The Sweetest Thing

Love it!:

My love she throws me like a rubber ball
Oh oh oh, the sweetest thing
She won’t catch me or break my fall
Oh oh oh, the sweetest thing
Baby’s got blue skies up ahead
But in this I’m a rain cloud
You know she wants a dry kind of love
Oh oh oh, the sweetest thing

I’m losing you
I’m losing you
Ain’t love the sweetest thing

I wanted to run but she made me crawl
Oh oh oh, the sweetest thing
Eternal fire, she turned me to straw
Oh oh, the sweetest thing
I know I got black eyes
But they burn so brightly for her
This is a blind kind of love
Oh oh oh, the sweetest thing

I’m losing you
Whoa haaa, I’m losing you
Ain’t love the sweetest thing

Ain’t love the sweetest thing (background)
Ain’t love the sweetest thing (background)
Ain’t love the sweetest thing (Bono)
________________

Ahhhh haaa haaaa
Ahhhh haaa haaaa

Blue-eyed boy meets a brown-eyed girl
Oh oh oh, the sweetest thing
You can sew it up but you still see the tear
Oh oh oh, the sweetest thing
Baby’s got blue skies up ahead
But in this I’m a rain cloud
Ours is a stormy kind of love
Oh oh oh, the sweetest thing
