It’s not about being a martyr

“This was what love meant after all: sacrifice and selflessness. It did not mean hearts and flowers and a happy ending, but the knowledge that another’s well-being is more important than one’s own.”
Melissa de la Cruz, Lost in Time
Nothing hurts worse than love unrequited unless you have come to the realization that if your partner is unhappy and things are not working out you must let them go….could be permanently or perhaps to pursue a dream.
Love is not supposed to be selfish.  It means sometimes going through great sacrifices for the well-being of someone else.  As long as this is not taken advantage of I don’t see a problem.
However….don’t be a martyr to try to prove a point.
That’s why the act is selfless.
If you have some kind of ulterior motive then you need to really evaluate yourself, and the relationship… is not easy.  It can test your sanity, your limits but the rewards of being loved, and enjoying the fruit of that union…well–nothing else can compare.
