Passion for the written word

What is it about the written word which stirs such passion within us?

A series of ideas jotted down to formulate a thought, to express an idea, to stir an emotion?

Is becoming a writer an acquired taste or is it simply a haunting of ideas that we have to write down?:

All my life I’ve looked at words as though I were seeing them for the first time. Hemingway

You write in order to change the world, knowing perfectly well that you probably can’t, but also knowing that literature is indispensable to the world… The world changes according to the way people see it, and if you alter, even by a millimeter, the way … people look at reality, then you can change it. James Arthur Baldwin
