I know of some people who suffer from a low social IQ. They fail to read body language, (which includes intonations, body posture…you know the non-verbals). Or they talk so much about themselves all you want to do is change the station.
I think being able to read people is all a part of emotional intelligence:
Emotional intelligence (EI) refers to the ability to perceive, control, and evaluate emotions. Some researchers suggest that emotional intelligence can be learned and strengthened, while other claim it is an inborn characteristic.
Personally I think it’s a natural ability….some might say it can be learned. I feel that there are individuals who can understand the human psyche just like a math savant can rattle off an equation and solve it all within the power of the mind.
And then there are those who simply have no clue as to how to act around others and it painfully shows. Perhaps they spend more time in front of their computer than they do with actual people. Which can happen and does in this current techno-savvy age.
